Key Elements
- Who Can Apply for a Workshop Card
Applicants should be authorised fitters or workshops responsible for the installation and maintenance of Vehicle Units.
Authorities should have checks in place to ensure that Workshop cards are only issued to applicants who:
- Are approved (by the issuing authority) as workshop fitters, recording equipment manufacturers, vehicle manufacturer or workshops;
- Pass identity checking requirements for personalised cards;
- Not entitled to a Company card, unless duly justified.
The requirement of Chapter VI ('Approval of fitters or workshops') of Regulation (EC) n° 1360/2002, dealing with 'Checks, Inspection and Repairs' means that if the competent authority having to approve the workshops decide to approve a transport company as a workshop, this company is then put on the list of the approved workshops to which workshop cards are issued by the CIA. It is up to the approval authorities to ensure the compliance of these transport companies/approved workshops against the requirements laid down for them to be approved.
The workshop card is “issued by the authorities to a recording equipment manufacturer, a fitter, a vehicle manufacturer or workshop, approved by that National Authority”.
