Commission sends reasoned opinions to 8 Member States
The European Commission has sent reasoned opinions – the last step before a formal complaint to the Court of Justice is lodged – to Greece, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia and the United Kingdom for failure to notify their national measures transposing Directive 2006/22/EC.

The European Commission launched a court proceeding against Greece for failure to properly introduce the digital tachograph system.

MIDT worked on the fitment of digital tachograph into light vehicles
The solution proposed by the MIDT Project regarding the adaptor enabling the fitment of digital tachographs into smaller vehicles such as vehicles used for the carriage of passengers with no more than eight seats and vehicles used for the carriage of goods with a maximum weight not exceeding 3.5 tons has been accepted by most of the Member States representatives who attended the MIDT Plenary meeting in Bucharest.

On 3 October 2006, more than 630 questions have been asked through the MIDT Help Desk established on July 2005.

Digital tachograph mandatory from 1 May 2006
Regulation (EC) n° 561/2006 on the Harmonisation of certain social legislation relating to road transport and amending Council Regulations (EEC) N° 3821/85 and (EC) N° 2135/98 and repealing Council Regulation (EEC) N° 3820/85 was published on 11 April 2006 in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Poland is expecting to isssue its first digital tachograph cards from mid-April 2006
Since 27 March 2006, Polish Card Issuing Authorities are ready to receive applications for digital tachograph cards. The national legislation ruling out the forms to apply for digital tachograph cards is in place since 22 March 2006.

Greece releases a draft tender to issue digital tachograph cards
The Greek Ministry of Transportation and Communications is going to launch a call for tender for issuing digital tachograph cards.

Implementation of Digital Tachograph : Lithuania is moving forward
Lithuania announced that 238 digital tachograph cards have been issued and four workshops have been approved so far.

Ireland and Poland on their way to introduce the digital tachograph in the field
Ireland has finalised the adoption of the necessary legislation on enforcement, card issuing and workshops approval. Ireland is now in position to issue all types of digital tachograph cards (…) and has already approved four workshops. Some more will be approved in the coming weeks.
On 22 February, Poland started the tests for connecting to TACHOnet. The testing phase is due to last three weeks.
