- Project Key Activities

The main activities that are provided under the MIDT Project are:
  1. Setting up a Helpdesk
  2. Providing a Forum for Member States & Stakeholders
  3. Training & Communication
  4. Special Actions towards New Member States
  5. Special Actions towards AETR Contracting Parties & UNO-AETR Secretariat
About the Helpdesk
The Helpdesk will provide full legal and technical information about the digital tachograph system to national authorities, drivers and road transport operators, tachograph, card or vehicle manufacturers, industrial partners, or to any other interested person.
The Helpdesk is hosted on this website. It works in English and any question will be answered within three working days. Besides providing precise information and personalised guidance, the Helpdesk also redirects the person towards appropriate local, national or European authorities and bodies.
Forum for Member States & Stakeholders
The Forum will meet at least once every 6 months. Participants for the Forum are EU & EEA Member States and Switzerland. Other related stakeholders will also be welcomed to attend working sessions. The Forum ensures the follow-up for on-going discussions on card issuing, enforcement, workshop approval, activation & calibration of digital tachographs, security policy, risk assessment and TACHOnet users' group.
Special Actions towards New Member States
Workshops to be organised by the MIDT Team are not information workshops.
MIDT experts will first analyse the situation with New Member States' national experts and check what already exists (enforcement agencies, approved workshops network, etc.), how powers are allocated (identifying Ministries and public bodies to be involved in the implementation of each piece of EU legislation) and what are the different powers attributed by law to each body.
Solutions will then be elaborated and proposed for the implementation of Regulations (EC) n°2135/98 and n°1360/2002, in order to cover the whole lifecycle of the digital tachograph, from its activation until its decommissioning, including card issuing procedures, workshop approval, enforcement, data management, data protection, etc.
Special Actions towards AETR Contracting Parties & UNO-AETR Secretariat
Generally speaking, MIDT experts' approach to AETR Contracting Parties will be very similar to the one towards New EU Member States. However workshops for AETR Contracting Parties would include a more significant part of basic information about the digital tachograph system. MIDT experts will also assess the level of implementation in the different AETR countries, non EU-members, by checking if rules for international transport are also applied to domestic transport, hour workshops are approved workshops, drivers 'hours' are enforced, what are the key actors in these processes (Ministries, public bodies, etc.)
Finally MIDT experts will help national experts designing implementation schemes for AETR Contracting Parties.
